Latest Match Summary – Leics vs India A Tour Match 2018

India A 458 for 4 (Agarwal 151, Shaw 132, Gill 86) triumphed over Leicestershire 177 (Wells 62, Chahar 3-24, Hooda 2-9, Axar 2-18) by 281 runs

India A secured a resounding 281-run victory against Leicestershire at Grace Road, powered by an exceptional batting display led by Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw. This win marked their second consecutive triumph, establishing a strong momentum going into the upcoming tri-series also involving England Lions and West Indies A.
Mayank Agarwal, the highest run-scorer in the 2017-18 domestic season, showcased his prowess with a remarkable 151 off 106 balls, including 18 boundaries and five maximums, before retiring after 39 overs. Opening alongside him, Prithvi Shaw, who had scored 70 in the previous tour opener against ECB XI, crafted a dazzling 132 off 90 deliveries, securing his maiden List A century. Their partnership propelled India A to a commanding total of 458 for 4, just 38 runs short of the all-time List A record set by Surrey in 2007 with 496 for 4 against Gloucestershire.

In response, Leicestershire’s innings crumbled as they were bowled out for 177 in just 40.4 overs, with India’s fast bowlers accounting for six wickets. Deepak Chahar, known for his exceptional performances in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, claimed three wickets, while M Prasidh Krishna, a promising talent for Kolkata Knight Riders, picked up 2 for 48 from eight overs.

The highest partnership for Leicestershire, an opening stand of 44, was disrupted as they lost wickets in quick succession. Captain Tom Wells fought valiantly, scoring 62 at No. 5, but the team was unable to thwart the dominance of India A’s bowlers. Deepak Hooda (4-0-9-2) and Axar Patel (7-1-18-2) applied pressure with their frugal bowling spells.

During India A’s innings, Agarwal and Shaw’s partnership of 221 in 26 overs laid a strong foundation, followed by an explosive 86 off 54 balls from Shubman Gill, further bolstering the team’s imposing total. Despite a couple of quick wickets, a late flourish from Deepak Hooda propelled India A past the 450-run mark, with the final 10 overs yielding 105 runs.

Leicestershire handed debuts to five players and included two others playing only their second game, whereas the India A XI featured three players with international experience and several domestic stalwarts across formats.
